Mariam Matti is a Canadian-Iraqi reporter and editor who has worked in the media business for eight years.
Throughout her career, she’s learned how to report, how to structure stories and what makes a great lede.
In her most recent role, she wrote, edited and managed content at Allergic Living magazine. She has done extensive coverage of: the EpiPen shortage, food allergy lawsuits against restaurants, inquests related to food allergy deaths and major research shaping the future of the disease.
Prior to joining Allergic Living, she worked as a front line editor on some of Canada’s most visited news websites including CTV News and Yahoo Canada, and learned to thrive in that type of high-pressured environment.
She played a key role in Yahoo Canada’s editorial series about LGBTQ issues in Canada to coincide with Pride month in the city in 2016. In an eye-opening interview, Mariam spoke with one of the first gay Syrian refugees about his journey to Canada.
Mariam has also participated in the coverage of major news events including the 2016 U.S. election, the Liberal government’s plan of bringing 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada and the 2015 San Bernardino attack.
She reported overseas in 2012, where she contributed to CTV News’ on-the-ground coverage of Iraq. She conducted interviews with Kurdish government officials, UNESCO representatives and Iraqi residents. She wrote a feature about the current state of electricity in the northern region of Iraq and produced a photo gallery of a 6,000 year-old settlement in the city of Erbil. The ability to speak Assyrian was invaluable during her trip.

The Malaria medication has had success in some initial cases and the FDA did give quick approval (one week) for broader trials which are on-going. You can read of some real live cases of success in the New York Post and a hospital in New York is currently administering the medication in a much broader trial. Do not be biased just because Trump brought some light to the it’s possible usefulness. Factual reporting is the key.
